Progress report for the Saturday April 23,2022 GGRM workday at Schellville
The Saturday April 23, 2022 workday was focused on the GGRM passenger cars located at our museum’s storage sites at Schellville Junction.
The primary emphasis was on the tasks required to get two of the 145 seat bi-level gallery cars ready for operation.

Below is the progress report for the Saturday April 23, 2022 workday.
At the Victory Station Yard worksite:
1. The GGRM EIC is required to send a text to NWPCO General Manager Ryan Martin when flag and derail protection has been set at the Victory Station Yard and the north leg of the Schellville wye. Done, Jim Prettyleaf
2. Charge Fairbanks Morse #1487 locomotive batteries. Done, Steve Coon.
3. Mow down the weeds at the Victory Station Yard. Done Steve Coon.
4. Weather permitting continue stripping, repairing, and painting the roof of the #141 Oakland Business Car. No action taken during the April 23, 2022 workday.
5. Fix any remaining water damage and prepare the dining room ceiling of the #141 Oakland Business Car for painting. No action taken during the April 9, 2022 workday.
6. Install the new copper pipes required for the #141 Oakland Business Car’s new Northwest Rail Electric air conditioning system. No action taken during the April 9, 2022 workday.
7. Continue the electrical wiring installations that are needed to get the #141 Oakland Business Car running again. No action taken during the April 9, 2022 workday.
8. Continue sorting out and reorganizing the contents of the #6752 Diesel Shop Car and the #5131 Steam Shop Car prior to the start of operations. No action taken during the April 9, 2022 workday.

At the Sonoma Rail worksite in Schellville:
2. Charge the batteries on the #3722 bi-level gallery-car by running the diesel generator. Done, Jim Prettyleaf
3. Continue testing and monitoring the operation of the #3722 gallery car’s gen-set to make certain that the problem that was causing the erratic rpm and spontaneous shutdown has been eliminated. Done, Jim Prettyleaf
4. Install the squirrel-cage fan that is missing from the #3722 gallery car’s gen-set. No action taken during the April 23, 2022 workday.
5. Start installing new door seals in the #3722 gallery car. Nico Dacong, Jay King, Manly Hyde, Steve Coon, and Jim Prettyleaf cut to correct width and installed new door seals on the north and south end doors of the #3722 gallery car.
6. Install New batteries in the #3720 gallery car. New batteries were ordered by Jim Prettyleaf on April 14, 2022, still waiting for delivery.
7. Continue vacuuming and washing seats and mopping the floors of the #3720 and the #3722 cars. No action taken during the April 23, 2022 workday.
8. Inspection and cleaning of the window shades in the #3722 and #3720 gallery cars. No action taken during the April 23, 2022 workday.
9. Make a list showing the location and number of window shades that will require replacement. No action taken during the April 23, 2022 workday.
10. Continue the work needed to select the gallery car with the least number of problems and concentrate on bringing #3720 or #3722 up to operational status. Done, #3722 will be the first gallery car brought up to operational status.
11. Inspect #3720 and #3722 and make a list of any parts that are missing, broken or inoperable. No action taken during the April 23, 2022 workday.
Ongoing Offsite Projects that Support Schellville Workday Objectives
- Located a supplier for the 0.080” inch thick fabric backed rubber sheets need to make new sliding door boots. Found McMaster-Carr can supply 3/32” (0.094’) thick by 36” wide ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) sheets that can be water jet cut into the 6” wide strips needed to make the new sliding door seals (boots). When using McMaster-Carr part number 8610K33 EPDM rubber sheets the estimated cost to replace the door seals for each gallery car will be roughly $182. New door seal material arrived on Monday April 18th and will be available at the Schellville worksite beginning on the April 23, 2022.
- Find and purchase a currently available functionally equivalent power contactor to replace the three-phase contactor that was cannibalized from #3714’s north end low range electric resistance heater. In progress Seth Adams, and Jim Prettyleaf.
- Manufacture and install of replacements for the arm rests that have been cannibalized from #3714. In progress by Jay King.
- Repair the broken sink that was removed from #3722. Owner Steve Rusconi.
- Order a new set of 8-volt batteries for the #3720 Gallery car. New batteries were ordered on April 14, 2022 thanks to three $400 donations received from Scott Bowdish, Severn Edmonds, and Garrett Brisbee.
Objectives that have been deferred until a future time.
- The restoration of the #3714 gallery car
- Creation of a written record of the repairs needed for the #3720 and 3722 gallery car’s CO2 fire systems prior to a visit from AAA Fire Suppression Services.
- Prepare the gallery cars for painting.
