Progress report for the Saturday's December 18, 2021 GGRM workday at Schellville

 The December 18th GGRM workday was focused on the following items at the Victory Station Yard and the Sonoma Rail storage site at Schellville.

As previously explained the GGRM’s locomotives have routinely been receiving the necessary levels of inspections and repairs, so the emphasis of Schellville workdays has been shifted to preparing the GGRM’s passenger cars for operation.

Below is the progress report for the Saturday’s December 18, 2021 workday.

At the Victory Station Yard worksite:

  1. The GGRM EIC is required to send a text to NWPCo General Manager Ryan Martin when flag and derail protection has been set at the Victory Station Yard and the north leg of the Schellville wye.  Done, Jim Prettyleaf
  2. The wind and rainstorm that occurred on Wednesday December 15 and Thursday December 16 stripped the tarp off of steam locomotive #2472, so we need to clean up the resulting mess and determine how we are going to protect #2472 for the remainder of the 2021 and 2022 rainy season.  Done, New tarp applied by Steve Coon, David Waterman and Nico Dacong.
  3. Continue stripping, repairing, and painting the roof of the #141 Oakland Business Car.  Lots of progress made by Nico Dacong and David Waterman.
  4. Continue preparing the ceiling of the #141 Oakland Business Car’s dining room for painting.  Done, by Nico Dacong during the previous December 11, 2021 workday.
  5. Determine why the baseboard heaters in the #2979 tavern lounge car are no longer working and complete the necessary repairs.  In progress by Jim Prettyleaf and Nico Dacong, found a defective 240-volt to 24-volt control power transformer with an open circuit 240-volt primary winding.

At the Sonoma Rail worksite in Schellville:

  1. Defer all work on the #3714 gallery car until a later date.  Done.
  2. Select the gallery car with the least number of problems and concentrate on bringing #3720 or #3722 up to operational status.  In progress.
  3. Continue vacuuming out the overhead compartment for #3720’s blowers.  Completed by Steve Rusconi.
  4. Refill the nitrogen bottle that is currently stored in #3722.  In progress by Jim Prettyleaf.
  5. Continue working on the air conditioning system of #3720 and #3722 per the written plan submitted by Seth Adams.  No action taken during the Dec 18, 2021 workday.
  6. Vacuum out the air conditioning system for #3722 and refill with oil and R134A refrigerant if no leaks have been detected.  No action taken during the Dec 18, 2021 workday.
  7. Repair the broken braided steel cable that controls the doorway occupied sensor switch for the pneumatically operated door at the south end of #3722.  In progress, owners Jim Prettyleaf and Jay King.
  8. Repair or replace the faulty power contactor for #3720’s north end low range electric resistance heater.  In progress Seth Adams and Jim Prettyleaf.
  9. Install the good sink cannibalized from #3714 into #3722’s restroom.  No action taken during the Dec 18, 2021 workday.
  10. Locate the source of the leaks in #3720’s and #3722’s water tanks.  Preliminary survey started, Jim Prettyleaf found inspection door and removable access panel.  Steve Rusconi expressed interest in completing this project.
  11. Repair the broken sink that was removed from #3722.  Owner Garrett Brisbee.
  12. Inspect #3720 and #3722 and make a list of any parts that are missing, broken or inoperable.  No action taken during the Dec 18, 2021 workday.
  13. Continue examining and make a written record of the repairs needed for the #3720 and 3722 gallery car’s CO2 fire systems prior to upcoming visit from AAA Fire Suppression Services.  No action taken during the Dec 18, 2021 workday.
  14. Complete the installation of the new truck center pin covers.  In progress Jay King.
  15. Manufacture and install replacements for the broken arm rests.  In progress Jay King.
  16. Continue vacuuming and washing seats in the #3720 and the #3722 cars.  Excellent progress made by Scott Bowdish and Manly Hyde.
  17. Gallery car window shade refurbishing and cleaning.  No action taken during the Dec 18, 2021 workday.
  18. Start preparing the gallery cars for painting.  No action taken during the Dec 18, 2021 workday.
