Progress Report Saturday October 16 and Saturday October 23, 2021

The Saturday October 16th and Saturday October 23, 2021 Schellville workdays completed the steps needed to lay up steam locomotive #2472 following steam testing, completion of the FRA annual inspection, and the first operation of this locomotive since September of 2015.

Major Milestones:

  • Thanks to the GGRM Volunteers that have been diligently working for many months steam locomotive #2472 successfully completed the steam test portion of the FRA annual inspection on Wednesday October 6, 2021 and is now fully operational.
  • Following completion of the October 6th annual inspection #2472 received permission from SMART and successfully completed test operations on the central track of the GGRM storage yard in Schellville.
  • On October 11, 2021 the GGRM CMO sent an email to the local District 7 FRA Inspectors to formally request a one year extension to #2472’s boiler time.  If this request for extension is granted we will not be required to retube #2472’s boiler until June 1 of 2023.
